Vocals to MIDI: get the melody as notes
Turn a vocal into a melody you can play on any instrument. Midify isolates the lead vocal, follows its pitch, and turns the slides and vibrato of a real voice into clean notes in the song's key.

How to convert vocals to MIDI
- 1
Upload a song or an a cappella
For a full song the vocal is separated first; an isolated vocal goes straight to transcription.
- 2
The melody is traced
The pitch of the voice is followed over time and split into notes where the singer moves to a new one.
- 3
Snap it to the key
Notes are snapped to the detected key and scale, and scoops and vibrato are smoothed out.
- 4
Export the melody
Download it as a MIDI track and play it on a lead synth, a piano or a string patch.
Why vocals are tricky to convert
A voice almost never sits still on a note. Singers scoop up to pitches, slide between them, add vibrato and drift a little sharp or flat. A converter that writes down exactly what it hears gives you a mess of tiny notes and pitch bends that sounds nothing like the tune.
What you usually want is the melody as it was meant: one clean note per syllable, in key. That is what the default settings aim for. If you want the expression, choose the performer preset, which keeps the timing loose and pitch bends within a limited range.
What helps
- A single lead vocal converts far better than stacked harmonies. Harmony parts can merge into one line.
- Heavy Auto-Tune is fine, and often makes the notes clearer; heavy distortion and delay are not.
- Ad-libs and breaths can create short stray notes. The ghost-note slider removes them.
- Humming or singing an idea of your own? The hum to MIDI page explains the faster in-browser route.
Melody, not lyrics
This turns the tune into notes. It does not write down the words. If you need lyrics for a lead sheet, add them by hand after export.
Vocals to MIDI: questions people ask
Can I turn a vocal into MIDI?
Yes. Upload the song or an isolated vocal and the lead melody comes back as a MIDI track, snapped to the key.
Does it handle harmonies and backing vocals?
It follows the lead line. Stacked harmonies in the same stem can blur together, so for harmony parts it is best to work from isolated vocal tracks.
Can I keep the vibrato and slides?
Yes. Choose to keep pitch bends, or limit them to a range, in the export panel. By default they are stripped for a clean melody.
