Guitar to MIDI without the pitch-bend mess
Guitar is the instrument audio to MIDI tools handle worst: bends, slides, strummed chords and string noise all confuse them. Midify separates the guitar, transcribes riffs and chords, and cleans the result so it plays back like a part, not a seismograph.

How to convert guitar to MIDI
- 1
Upload a guitar part or a song
A DI or miked guitar, a guitar stem, or a full song (the guitar is separated first).
- 2
Notes and chords are transcribed
Single-note lines and strummed chords are both transcribed, with each note on its own pitch.
- 3
Bends become notes
Bends and slides are stripped by default and the notes land where the guitar was aiming. Keep them as limited bends if you prefer.
- 4
Export the MIDI
Download the part and play it on a synth, a sampled guitar or anything else.
Why guitar is hard to convert
Guitarists bend strings, slide into notes, let chords ring into each other and hit muted strings for rhythm. A strummed chord is six notes starting a few milliseconds apart. All of that is musical, and all of it looks like noise to a pitch tracker, which is why guitar MIDI from most tools comes out full of tiny notes and wild pitch bends.
What works well today
- Clean or lightly overdriven single-note riffs and lead lines.
- Chord progressions played clearly, which also feed the detected chord track.
- A DI recording (straight from the guitar, before the amp), which converts much better than a heavily distorted one.
What is coming
A dedicated guitar mode is on the roadmap: string and fret assignment, bends and slides as articulations, and tab export. Today you get MIDI notes, which any tab or notation app can import, and we will not pretend the tab part exists until it does.
Guitar to MIDI: questions people ask
Can I convert a guitar riff to MIDI?
Yes. Upload the recording, or the song with the guitar stem selected, and export the riff as MIDI. Short riffs also work in quick mode in your browser.
Does it work with distorted guitar?
Light overdrive is fine. Heavy distortion adds so many harmonics that the notes get harder to read; record a DI track alongside if you can.
Does it export guitar tabs?
Not yet. Tab export and string and fret assignment are planned for a later guitar mode. The MIDI can be imported into most tab apps today.
