Hum to MIDI, right in your browser
Got a melody in your head? Hum it, whistle it or sing it into your microphone and Midify turns it into MIDI notes, snapped to a key, in a few seconds. It runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no limit.
Free and unlimited. No sign-up, nothing uploaded.
How to turn a hummed melody into MIDI
- 1
Open quick mode
No account needed. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- 2
Hum the idea
Press record and hum, whistle or sing the melody. A few bars is plenty.
- 3
Snap it to a key
The notes appear in the piano roll. Pick a key and scale and stray notes snap into it.
- 4
Export or keep going
Download the .mid file, or keep editing: move notes, change lengths, quantize to a grid.
Private by design
Quick mode runs the transcription model inside your browser, on your own device. Your recording is never uploaded to our servers, which is why it can be free and unlimited. It uses your graphics card through WebGPU where the browser supports it, and falls back to a slower path where it does not.
Tips for a clean hum
Humming is one note at a time, which makes it one of the easiest things to transcribe. A few habits make it even cleaner:
- Hum on a clear syllable like "da" or "doo" so each note has a distinct start. A long "mmm" can blur notes together.
- Record in a quiet room, close to the mic, without music playing.
- Whistling is often more accurate than humming because the pitch is purer.
- Do not worry about being perfectly in tune. Snap-to-key fixes small drifts.
From hum to full song
Once your melody is MIDI, it is a starting point for everything else: harmonize it, put it on a synth, or drag it into your DAW and build the track around it. When you want to convert a full song with drums and bass, that runs on our servers with the free plan's 3 songs a month.
