Bass to MIDI, clean enough for a synth
Pull the bassline out of a song or a bass recording and put it on a synth. Midify separates the bass, transcribes it as a single line, and cleans it up so it plays back tight on any bass patch.

How to convert bass to MIDI
- 1
Upload a bass part or a song
A recorded bass, a bass stem or a full mix. For a mix, the bass is separated first.
- 2
Transcribe the bassline
The bass is treated as one note at a time, the way it is usually played, which avoids the overtone ghost notes polyphonic tools add.
- 3
Tighten it up
Quantize to the grid you want, snap stray notes to the key, and check it against the stem.
- 4
Export to your bass synth
Download the MIDI with a bass program number and drag it onto any instrument.
Why basslines are a great first conversion
Bass parts are usually one note at a time, sit in their own frequency range and follow the kick drum, which makes them one of the most reliable things to transcribe. A clean bass MIDI track is also immediately useful: double a recorded bass with a sub, swap a bass guitar for a synth, or learn a line note for note.
The clean-up that matters for bass
Raw transcription of a bass guitar tends to come out messy in specific ways. These are fixed before you see it:
- Overtone ghost notes (an octave or a twelfth above the real note) are filtered out.
- Slides and vibrato are not turned into a cloud of pitch bends; bends are stripped by default, or limited to a range you choose.
- Overlapping notes are trimmed, so a synth in mono or legato mode does not choke.
- Very short fragments below the grid are removed by the ghost-note filter.
Very low notes and 808s
Sub-heavy 808s and synth basses with long, gliding tails are harder: the pitch is low, the attack is soft and the note slides. You will get the notes, but expect to adjust lengths and glides by hand. A bass recorded with a clear attack, such as a picked or slapped bass, converts best.
Bass to MIDI: questions people ask
Can I extract a bassline from a song as MIDI?
Yes. Upload the song, keep only the bass stem selected, and the bass is separated and transcribed into a MIDI track.
Does it work with 808s?
It finds the notes of most 808 lines, but long gliding 808s often need lengths and glides adjusted by hand after export.
Will the bass MIDI have pitch bends?
Not unless you want them. Bends are stripped by default; you can keep them or limit them to a set range in the export panel.
